Iranian Metallic Luster | Mexico's National School of Ceramics

In November 2025, I studied Zarin Fam—Iran’s 750-year-old metallic luster technique—with the Tavassolian Brothers. The workshop at Mexico’s National School of Ceramics revealed not only the wood-kiln alchemy and meticulous layering required for its iridescence but also how storytelling breathes life into clay. These lessons will shape my practice: I’ll weave Zarin Fam’s luminous legacy with my Mexican heritage, creating vessels that honor ancestral craft while probing diasporic identity. Each piece becomes a tactile archive, where fire-etched surfaces and cultural memory converge.
